Bail and Flail Swim

Sunday 17th September 2023, Two Mile Gate, Killaloe. Boru Tri Club look forward to welcoming you to this day of swims 1km, 500m, and 3km swims for novice and experienced open water swimmers. The swims will take place at Two Mile Gate, Killaloe on Sunday 17th of September. Swimbuoys are mandatory for the 3km event and optimal for the 500m and 1km events. Swims are limited to adult swimmers over 18 years old.

A donation, recommended €10 will be requested by all participants on the day and proceeds will go to Killaloe Ballina Search and Recovery that provide water based emergency support in the area.

The 3km swim, swimbuoy mandatory event is a point to point swim starting at Two Mile Gate and finishing at The Lakeside Hotel. Use of shower facilities at the hotel leisure centre will be available to swimmers after the race and refreshments will be provided in the gardens of the hotel, weather permitting. The prize giving of The Peter Lacey memorial cup will be presented to the first local swimmer to finish. Thanks to the Lakeside Hotel for their kind hospitality.

Registration online at www.eventbrite.ie is mandatory for this event and additional swimmers will not be accepted on the day of the event. Please confirm your presence at the registration desk beside the desk adjacent to the lifeguard hut on the morning of the event 30 to 60 minutes before swim starts.

1km 9:00am Swim start time, Register in person at 8.00-8.30/ 500m 10.00am swim start time. Register in person at 9.00am-9.30am/3km 12.00pm swim start time. Register in person at 11.00am – 11.30am. Enjoy!

July 2023 Club Notes

Hi all,

It has been a very buzy season so far and no doubt the next 6-8 weeks will have a lot more activity. Lets hope the summer returns one of these days. Attached find some shots of some people out and about at club training evnets and races.

It is great to see so many new members join in the past few months;Scott Mc Kinlay, Aidan Fleming, Shane Malone, Gareth Taylor, Edel Broderick and David Geraghty . We look forward to meeting you in the months ahead. Please don’t hesitate to come out and join us on the regular training sessions we do, as outlined below. We are not elite and you will see there are all levels in the club, which makes it interesting.

Best Wishes to Lilly O Dea who damaged fingers requiring surgery on the run at the recent Hardman Waterville event. Word on the street is she was spoted last weekend swiming single handedly somewhere around Glengarrif. No surprise there!

Regular Training:

Running (Point of contact Gary Madden)

Gary interval sessions will resume in September in Clarisford park at 7.15pm on Tuesday nights . These are a great way to build up a bit of speed and are a painless event( if you don’t get carried away with the speed aspect), everyone runs at their own pace.

There are also Thursday 7.15pm interval speed sessions on the track at Clarisford park. These are run by Larry Arthur but Boru Tri members are welcome to attend. These are focussed on speed, short and fast running intervals. Check with Gary as these may not be on each week during the month of August.

Cycling: (Point of contact Martin Pearl)

8am from Aldi every Sunday and 7pm from Aldi on Wednesday evenings

(Target is for three groups, but that changes depending on turnout ). Route is posted on Viber on Saturday evenings or any change to plans as may happen.

If you’re starting back cycling after a long absence or new to the club reach out to Martin and he will advise how best to start off.

Swimming – (Point of Contact Donagh O’ Sullivan)

We will continue outdoor swimming on Thursdays , 6.00pm at Two Mike Gate. Please bring swimbuoys to all club training activities.The plan will be to have a session each Thursday at 6pm at Two Mile Gate, through to mid September. We will use the buoys in front of the Two Mile Gate for these sessions.

  Limerick Tri Club also run an open water session at 6.30pm on Mondays at O' Briens Bridge and they have said we are welcome to join that.               

Events are up and running per the Triathlon Ireland calendar, various run events and cycle sportives and it won’t be long before outdoor swim events start to appear. Hope you set yourself some challenges and enjoy some new and old events. There are a lot of people that will have experience of various events , if there is one you are considering doing but would like to know more about put a question on Viber and chances are someone has tried the event before and give some good advice.

Keep safe on the roads, hills and open water and enjoy the summer days .

Good luck to those taking part in events and new activities in the coming weeks , hope you are sucessful in those that you take on. The Lough Derg Quest will be held in Ballina-Killaloe again this year on Sept 9th, and a number of people are planning Ironman activities in Cork and elsewhere in the coming months. March & April 2023 Club news

Hi all,

 It has been an active start to the season . It is great to see so many new members join in the past few months;Kera Minogue,Owen Edwards, Fintan  Richardson,Keith O’ Sullivan, Mickie Brennan and Kieran Ruane . We look forward to meeting you in the months ahead. Please don’t hesitate to come out and join us on the regular training sessions we do, as outlined below. We are not elite and you will see there are all levels in the club, which makes it interesting.

Best Wishes to Rosin Mc Geever who broke her elbow and required surgery after a fall from a bike during on eof our sunday spins.

In March the club donated €946 to the Brothers of Charity -Killaloe, that were the proceeds of our New years day run a number of years ago. It was gratefully recieved by local man Ross Williams.

We run a memorial in memory of our club member Maeve Williamson who passed away in early 2021 after a battle with cancel. This is always a great day out for the club and we usually take a break at Portumna Castle for refreshments half way around. Pleas put this one in your calendar Sunday 18th of June, if you are aroung on that day.

 Swimming – (Point of Contact Donagh O’ Sullivan)

We will start outdoor swimming, with kayak support, on Thursday May 18th, 6.00pm.  Please bring swimbuoys to all club training activities.The plan will be to have a session each Thursday at 6pm at Two Mile Gate, through to mid September. We will use the buoys in front of the Two Mile Gate for these sessions. Friday the 21st July is our club swim from Two Mile Gate to Pier head , appoximately 3.5km (current assisted ) swim, one that ever year a coiple of new people set as a target to achieve. Later in the summer on Sunday the 17th of September we will have a club event ;Tri a Swim 500m and 1km and Bail and Flail 3km from Two Mile Gate.

Feb 2023 Club Notes

Hi all,

Before giving an update of club activities in the club I would like to remember our late club member Dan O’ Donnell who sadly passed away on the 5th of February after a short illness. He was a very active member of the community and enjoyed cycling with the club amongst many other interests and activities he partook in. It is such a sad thing to happen to a young person and it was evident from his funeral that he was very well liked and respected in the community. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.

November 2022 Club Notes

Hi all,

Hope you’re enjoying the mild  autumn weather we have been having.

There are a couple of things coming up to put in your diary and things of note to mention that have been happening in the club in recent times:

Club AGM 

Saturday 19th November 7:30pm -Lakeside Hotel.

Please make the effort to come along and voice your opinions on plans for 2023 and hear about events. It’s also a chance to sit down with members afterward for a social drink and chat. 

Christmas night out (Provisional Date: Saturday 10th December ), we might even have a Turkey bike race earlier that day.
