November 2022 Club Notes

Hi all,

Hope you’re enjoying the mild  autumn weather we have been having.

There are a couple of things coming up to put in your diary and things of note to mention that have been happening in the club in recent times:

Club AGM

Saturday 19th November 7:30pm -Lakeside Hotel.

Please make the effort to come along and voice your opinions on plans for 2023 and hear about events. It’s also a chance to sit down with members afterward for a social drink and chat.

Christmas night out (Provisional Date: Saturday 10th December ), we might even have a Turkey bike race earlier that day.

Club Website :

The club have been working on revamping and bringing up to date our website. Boru Tri Club – Swimming, Cycling & Running in Killaloe/Ballina

Well done to Marie Mitchell who led the charge with this project and directed the detail that went into it. It looks great and should be a good reference for ourselves and for others interested in knowing what happens in the club and hopefully help with recruitment of some new members for 2023.

Club Membership 2023

The club have set the membership for as €25 for the coming year. That is the amount the club gets for eeach member that joins.

In addition to that Triathlon Ireland take €30 for Club Training Membership(Total €55),  €79 for Full membership (Total €104)and €91 for Swim + Membership(Total €116) . Membership can be renewed on the Triathlon Ireland website now or over the coming months. We ask members to try and renew before the new year if possible. Or new members can now join for the remainder of 2022 and all of 2023 for the above prices.

Congratulations: It is impossible to pick out particular events and people who have done great things this past few months. A couple do stand out such as Rosie Foleys completion of the Swim Triple crown with her swim of the Katalina Strait in southern California. Ciara Bradley also was 4th her age group in the Triathlon Ireland National series , allowing her to represent Ireland again next year at International events, she also recently represented Ireland in Bilbao in a Triathlon  event. Congratulations to all Ian O’ H, Cathal, Ian M, Lilly, Dee Finn, Monika, Bobby, Seamus, Joe and Darren that did the Dublin City Marathon last weekend, and Crevan who did the London marathon recently.. A lot of training and build up goes into Marathon events and it was great to see such a big club turnout in Dublin.

Despite it being the latter part of the season , it has been a very active couple of months in the club with events and trips.

The following is a summary of some recent events in the club. Apologies if I’ve missed some highlights.I’m sure I have.

Thanks : to Dee Kearney and Wendy , helped by Martin and Monika for the running aspects , who put on a Swim, Transition and Run session on September 24th as part of the TI Womens Outdoor Week initiative , those who took part really enjoyed it, even in the very choppy waters we had on that day.

Thanks : To all those who supported on Land and on Water, and to the Lakeside Hotel for their hospitality, for  the TRI a Swim and Bail and Flail events on Sunday 25th of Sept. Those that attended were very complimentary of the club and the events. It is great that our club and community can host such events and give back to others that do the same for up and down the length of the country at events that we attend  year round.

Good Luck to: Stephen O’ Sullivan on the launch of his new training App, to help people find a group to train with . Reach out to him if you have any questions regarding it. Find Training Partners | Train Pack (trainpackapp.com)

Some upcoming activities/events  of note are :

Running (Point of contact Gary Madden)

Gary is starting the Tuesday night interval sessions in Clarisford park at 7.15pm on Tuesday nights . These are a great way to build up a bit of speed and are a painless event, everyone runs at their own pace.

Cycling: (Point of contact Martin Pearl)

Sunday cycles (Target is three groups, but that changes depending on turnout ) 9am from Aldi .  If you’re starting back or new to the club reach out to Martin and he will advise how best to start off.

Club June Cycle: A cycle for all , with a night away one of the Saturdays in June 2023 -More to follow , as Martin makes plans. Forward your expression of interest to Martin

Swimming – (Point of Contact Donagh O’ Sullivan)

We are taking a break from formal activities  for the winter months. Some people keep up training in local pools ,UL, Nenagh, Ennis , Lakeside etc.  It is a good time to take swim lessons for those who want to start or improve their swimming. Reach out to club members Dee Kearney and Wendy Szarnek as they might have ideas or spaces in swim sessions they are putting on over the winter /spring months.

Events are sparse enough over the coming months. Good luck to Crevan who is running the NYC marathon next weekend , and Mike Kelly taking on a 100km Trail run in Sweeden next weekend also. The Border half marathon is coming soon also and is a good local running event.  Hope to see a good turnout at the AGM Saturday 19th November and at our Christmas night out (Provisional Date: 10th December ), we might even have a Turkey bike race earlier that day.

Keep safe and enjoy the Autumn/ Winter training.

Yours in sport,

Donagh
