Swimming with Boru Tri Club
The focus of the club’s swimming activities is during the months of May to September when we can use the great amenity of Lough Derg which is on our doorstep, for open water swimming. We have a kayak-supported swim each Thursday evening during this period from Two Mile Gate and its focus is to allow beginners and the more experienced a safe environment in which to swim and progress.
Each year in July we also have a club swim for members who are progressing towards a 3.5km swim distance from Two Mile Gate to Pier head in Killaloe. Then in September, we host a set of swims of 500m, 1km and 3km (Bail and Flail) that is open to members and non-members to allow all a chance to try a swim event, at their level.
Within the club, we have some very established swimmers and indeed coaches and everyone is very helpful for those starting out. During the summer there are a lot of swim events separate to Triathlons that members join, in such places as Kilkee, Miltown Malbay, Garnish island (Glengarrif ), The fiord swim ( Galway), Sandycove island (Kinsale), Glendalough, The island swim (Limerick) and some even go abroad to the likes of Italy, Spain or Portugal to attend swim events. Many of our members have started swimming with the club and progresses in a short time to do events of 1km, 2km and 3km. Hope you’ll enjoy swimming with the club.
